Real Madrid‘s Vinicius Junior is making a name for himself in football. His recent Champions League goal against Benfica not only helped his team win 2-1 but also set a record for the most knockout stage goals by a Brazilian player in the competition, according to Madrid Xtra.
The previous record was held by Neymar, who was a standout player in the 2010s and early 2020s with Barcelona and PSG, where he enjoyed significant success, including a treble win with Barcelona.
At just 25 years old, Vinicius Junior is already outpacing his predecessor. His 14th career knockout goal came in the 80th minute of the match against Benfica, while Neymar, who has moved to Al-Hilal, scored 13 in total.
Vinicius also boasts two Champions League titles, contributing significantly to Real Madrid’s victories in the 2021/22 and 2023/24 seasons.
Neither player has won the Ballon d’Or yet, but this is a goal for Vinicius. For now, he continues to impress with his performances, surpassing a notable record held by Neymar.
