Wayne Rooney thinks one Liverpool forward may be feeling anxious despite the team’s strong 4-1 victory over Newcastle United, as new attacking partnerships are developing.

Liverpool’s performance showed effective movement, precise finishing, and increasing teamwork in the attacking area.

While the win bolstered their standing, Rooney’s post-match remarks concentrated on individual roles rather than the final score.

Wayne Rooney says Alexander Isak should be worried after Newcastle rout

On his podcast, Rooney pointed out Isak, who might feel pressure after the recent performance.

“I’d be more worried if I was Isak, sitting there watching. His Liverpool career just hasn’t taken off yet,” Rooney commented.

He added: “They spent a lot of money on him, and these two [Wirtz and Ekitike] seem to have a good understanding of each other’s games, making them a real threat.”

Rooney emphasized the importance of momentum. As Liverpool’s attack gains strength, chances for players outside the favored group may dwindle.

Wayne Rooney praises Hugo Ekitike’s instinctive finishing

Rooney particularly highlighted Ekitike, noting his quality and the variety he brings to the game.

“Ekitike’s second goal was fantastic; it reminded me of Romario. A little toe-poke goal, but it was instinctive. He’s the type of player I enjoy watching,” Rooney remarked.

“He’s neither a number nine nor a number ten. He drifts wide, gets on the ball, links up with others, and can score goals. So, he really has a bit of everything,” he concluded.

This description underscores why Ekitike’s position seems secure. His movement creates space, his passing keeps attacks alive, and his finishing gives the team an edge.

For Liverpool, the rise of a balanced and unpredictable forward duo is a significant advantage.
