Matheus Cunha was the top target for Manchester United at the beginning of the 2025 summer transfer window, following his performance at Wolves.
In the last season, Cunha netted 17 goals and made six assists in 36 matches, paving the way for his move to Old Trafford.
His eagerness to join United played a significant role in the club prioritizing him, showing little concern for the absence of European football. This openness also attracted United to players like Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, and Senne Lammens.
However, Cunha’s transfer for £62.5 million left a vacancy at Wolves that needed to be addressed swiftly.
Consequently, the club signed Jhon Arias for £15 million from Fluminense in Brazil.
Unfortunately, after just seven months, Arias has returned to Brazil, compelling Wolves to seek a new player to fill Cunha’s former role.
Wolverhampton Wanderers announced on their official site: “Jhon Arias has returned to Brazil, joining Palmeiras on a permanent deal.”
The statement continued: “The midfielder spent seven months with Wolves, appearing in 26 matches and scoring two goals.
“Arias, 28, signed under Vitor Pereira in July 2025 and played in nearly every Premier League match since then, starting 14 times and scoring against West Ham United in January.”
“His only other goal came against Shrewsbury Town in the Emirates FA Cup, with his final appearance last weekend against Bournemouth.”
“Everyone at Wolves thanks Jhon for his contributions and wishes him success in Brazil.”
Sadly for Wolves, the season has not unfolded well. The club currently sits at the bottom of the Premier League table with only eight points, making relegation a likely outcome.
