Julian Hall, a 17-year-old rising star, scored his third goal in two matches, leading the New York Red Bulls to a 1-0 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday in Harrison, N.J.
Hall has been instrumental for New York, netting all three goals this season, including two in last week’s 2-1 win against Orlando City.
His goal in the 53rd minute came from a header, giving the Red Bulls (2-0-0, 6 points) a well-deserved lead after dominating the first half.
New York’s goalkeeper, Ethan Horvath, made two saves as the team maintained 62.5% possession. This win marked the first time since August that the Red Bulls have won back-to-back league matches, continuing their strong start under new coach Michael Bradley.
Despite the loss, Matt Turner of the Revolution (0-2-0, 0 points) made three saves and cleared 19 balls from danger.
Horvath, in his first MLS season after joining from Cardiff City, only faced a shot at the 34th minute when he deflected Griffin Yow’s attempt out of bounds.
The game’s only goal came from a set piece. After a short corner, the Red Bulls crossed the ball to Adri Mehmeti, whose header set up Hall for another header that beat Turner.
New England’s best chance in the second half came in the 68th minute when Ilay Feingold broke forward. He passed to Yow, who had a clear shot opportunity, but Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty intervened with a header over the net, and the ensuing corner was easily dealt with by New York.
In stoppage time, the Revolution missed another opportunity when Carles Gil failed to connect with a teammate, sending a pass from the near post out of bounds.
