The Los Angeles Lakers appointed JJ Redick as head coach last June, leading to skepticism about the decision. Redick had no prior coaching experience, yet he was tasked with leading a roster that includes LeBron James, Luka Dončić, and Austin Reaves.
The expectations were high. This team aims for championships, not just participation. A key concern was how LeBron James, 41, would adjust after two decades in the spotlight.
So far, James has accepted a lesser role, allowing Dončić and Reaves to take on more offensive responsibilities. The results have been impressive: the Lakers are currently third in the Western Conference with a 46-26 record, including a streak of nine consecutive wins.
Richard Jefferson Supports JJ Redick for Coach of the Year
This successful run has sparked a reevaluation of the team’s potential and has put Redick’s name in the Coach of the Year conversation.
In a recent episode of the “Road Trippin’ Show,” 2016 NBA champion Richard Jefferson explained why he believes Redick deserves recognition as Coach of the Year.
“You look at the injuries at the start of the season and how he kept the team competitive. Winning crucial games against Denver and Houston and pulling off a win in Miami shows his effectiveness,” Jefferson noted.
“While individual performances are strong, the team has also found its rhythm, overcoming doubts about the Big 3’s chemistry.”
“JJ’s role includes more than just strategy. It involves getting one of the greatest players of all time to accept a supporting role. Managing personalities is a huge part of coaching,” he added.
