In the NBA’s three-point-centered game of 2026, the Los Angeles Lakers are succeeding by focusing on two-point shots.

The Lakers achieved a 73.1 percent success rate in two-point shooting during their 142-111 victory over the Washington Wizards. They led by 29 points at halftime and secured a decisive win. Luka Doncic had a triple-double in the first half, finishing the game with 37 points in just 31 minutes.

The Los Angeles Lakers excel close to the basket

Both Doncic and LeBron James are effective at making shots, even though neither is a standout three-point shooter. Doncic has a three-point shooting percentage of 34.7, while James stands at 32.1 percent.

However, both players are skilled at creating easy scoring opportunities for themselves and their teammates. More than half of James’s shots come within 10 feet of the basket, where he shoots 57.4 percent. Doncic excels near the rim, making 86.4 percent of his shots from within three feet, and 58 percent from both three and ten feet.

Doncic ranks 10th in the NBA with an average of 14.7 drives to the basket per game, closely followed by Austin Reaves with 12.7 drives. This ability contributes to their combined average of 20 free throw attempts each game.
