Each year, the Los Angeles Lakers are linked with top players in the league. However, due to the salary cap, draft picks, and other teams’ requirements, these rumors often don’t materialize.

This season seems no different. While some supporters hope for a player like Giannis Antetokounmpo, it’s unlikely to happen.

Lakers insider Jovan Buha mentioned that instead of acquiring a star, head coach JJ Redick may have to focus on adding three-and-D role players.

The Lakers won’t trade for a star

“Keon Ellis and De’Andre Hunter are two names that seem more realistic,” Buha stated on his YouTube channel. “Keon’s situation depends on Sacramento’s willingness to lower their demands for a first-round pick. If they do, the Lakers could be interested.”

He went on to outline potential trade options for bringing Ellis and Hunter to Los Angeles.

“If it’s Gabe [Vincent] and Maxi [Kleber] along with a second-round pick, that could work for Hunter,” Buha added. “If it involves Gabe, Maxi, and Dalton [Knecht] with a second, that’s also a possibility. But if it includes Rui [Hachimura] or a first-round pick, I’d rather not pursue DeAndre Hunter.”

The Lakers have sufficient scoring and star talent, so GM Rob Pelinka should focus on enhancing their support roster.

They may still need a defense-oriented big man after these trades, but with Ellis and Hunter effectively guarding perimeter shooters and making long-range shots, the team should perform better as the season progresses.
