Lakers player Deandre Ayton faced a brief situation at an airport in the Bahamas.
The 26-year-old center was temporarily detained after a search related to suspected marijuana possession.
The Central Division of the Royal Bahamas Police Force confirmed that Ayton, who is from the Bahamas, was stopped at Lynden Pindling International Airport.
Update from DeAndre Ayton’s Lawyer
Ayton’s lawyer, Devard Francis, explained the situation. The substance in question was not Ayton’s; it belonged to another person traveling with him. After this was clarified, Ayton was released without charges.
“The investigators determined that the small amount of marijuana was not in Deandre’s bag. They conducted their inquiries, and he was quickly released,” Francis stated, according to Jasper Ward of Reuters.
