Two weeks ago, Max Kellerman criticized Luka Doncic on his podcast, suggesting that Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics is a better player. Since then, Doncic has been performing exceptionally well, and the Los Angeles Lakers have a record of 6-1.
Kellerman made remarks about Doncic, saying that if he were ever honored with a statue, it would show him “complaining to the refs.” He later reiterated his views on the “Bill Simmons Podcast,” claiming Doncic’s growth had been “stunted.” Now, the Lakers are just half a game from third place in the standings, with Doncic in superb form.
Luka Doncic’s Impact on Winning
Since Kellerman’s comments, Doncic has ranked second in the NBA for scoring, previously holding the top spot until Bam Adebayo’s surprising 83-point game on Tuesday. The Lakers have been successful, winning six out of seven games by an average of 13 points while effectively defending against teams like the New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves.
From February 27 onwards, following Kellerman’s second podcast, Doncic has averaged 31.1 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 7.3 assists, with shooting percentages of 49.7% from the field and 38% from three-point range. His performance has come without LeBron James, who is sidelined due to injury during the Lakers’ current three-game winning streak.
On Tuesday, Doncic posted a triple-double with 31 points in a 14-point victory over the Timberwolves, while his teammate Austin Reaves also scored 31 points. On Sunday, Doncic contributed 35 points and Reaves added 25 as the Lakers held a decisive lead over the Knicks, limiting them to under 100 points. These wins highlight their strength against teams considered contenders for the title.
