Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving has not played this season as he is recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in March.
At nearly 34 years old, Irving is focused on his recovery. With the Mavericks holding a 19-35 record and not expected to compete in the Western Conference, both he and the team are prioritizing his readiness for a return.
“The decision wasn’t easy, but it’s the right one,” Irving stated.
“I look forward to coming back stronger next season. My belief and drive continue to grow. I want to shout out to all those who’ve torn their ACL or faced injuries while doing what they love. Thank you for the inspiration. No fear!”
Before his injury, Irving averaged 24.7 points and 4.6 assists per game and was selected for the All-Star weekend for the first time since 2022-23 while with Brooklyn.
This leads us to a quiz. Irving is one of 22 players in NBA history to be selected first overall in the NBA Draft and win Rookie of the Year. His teammate Cooper Flagg has a chance to make it 23 this season. How many of these players can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
