The NBA Slam Dunk contest will have a new winner for the first time since 2022, as Mac McClung will not participate this year.
This year’s competitors are all newcomers. Jaxson Hayes from the Los Angeles Lakers is the most experienced, now in his seventh NBA season. He has made 80 dunks this season, which is significantly more than the others. In contrast, Keshad Johnson (Miami Heat), Jase Richardson (Orlando Magic), and Carter Bryant (San Antonio Spurs) have combined for just 22 dunks this season.
Richardson, who is entering his first dunk contest, has a family connection to the event; his father won the contest two times in the early 2000s.
