The news about the Clippers and James Harden seeking a new arrangement moved quickly towards a deal.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are trading Darius Garland and a second-round draft pick to the Clippers in exchange for Harden. His wish for a contract extension did not align with Los Angeles’ long-term goals, even after improving from a record of 6-21 to 23-26.
“I didn’t want to hold the Clippers back from their future. I wanted them to have a chance to rebuild and gain some draft assets,” Harden said regarding the trade.
“In Cleveland, I see a chance to win in the East. They have a solid team and coaching staff. While I wanted to stay in LA, I’ve never won an NBA championship. I believe we have a better chance now.”
Harden is currently averaging 25.4 points and 8.1 assists per game, consistently playing around 35.4 minutes in 44 games this season.
