Arsenal handed Liverpool their second defeat of the season in the Premier League. Playing at Emirates Stadium in week 23 of the Premier League, Sunday (04/02) night IST, the Gunners won 3-1 over Liverpool and cut the gap in the hunt for the league trophy.
Arsenal have appeared pressing since the start of the match. As a result, a goal was scored in the 14th minute which began with a neatly built attack, leading to Kai Havertz’s shot which was pushed over by Alisson and the rebound was grabbed by Bukayo Saka. 1-0 Arsenal ahead.
After the goal, Liverpool tried to increase the intensity of the attack and score a goal back. However, Arsenal are also solid in defence and does not let Liverpool dictate the game, let alone create dangerous opportunities.
Arsenal also threatened with counter-attacks, but the second goal did not come, even before the game broke up in the first half a goal ‘fell from the sky’ scored by Liverpool. Luis Diaz was persistent in winning the ball, but there was miscommunication between William Saliba and David Raya, leading to Diaz’s shot which resulted in an own goal when it touched Gabriel Magalhaes’ hand. The first half ended in a 1-1 draw.
Uniquely, in the second half, it was Liverpool who made the mistake with a miscommunication between Virgil van Dijk and Alisson. When welcoming the incoming gastric ball, both failed to get the ball and Gabriel Martinelli moved quickly to greet him. Arsenal took the lead 2-1.
Jurgen Klopp tried to make changes with the inclusion of Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliott, and Andy Robertson, to players who had just recovered from injury, Thiago Alcantara.
Liverpool attacked more intensely and they were frustrated by Arsenal’s strong defence. As a result, from one moment of counter-attack Liverpool were caught off guard in the 90+2 minute guarding substitute, Leandro Trossard, and he scored Arsenal’s winner, 3-1.
