Indian football legend Sunil Chhetri has announced his intention to retire from professional football after the 2025-26 Indian Super League (ISL) season. His final decision will depend on the performance of Bengaluru FC and their qualification for the continental championship.

At 42 years old, Chhetri aims to score 15 goals this ISL season. Although he previously retired from international football, he briefly returned for the Asian Cup qualifiers but will not play for India again.

He stated that scoring 15 goals is his goal before retirement and added that he will only continue playing if Bengaluru qualifies for the Asian championship.
