San Diego FC defeated Pumas UNAM 4-1 in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup on Tuesday, scoring four goals in the second half.
At halftime, Pumas was leading 1-0. The equalizer came in the 68th minute when Manu Duah scored with a header from a corner kick. Following this, David Vazquez, Alex Mighten, and Luca Bombino each found the net within a 10-minute span, securing a strong victory for San Diego FC in their Champions Cup debut.
The second leg of this two-game series will be held on February 10 in Mexico City. The winner will face Deportivo Toluca FC in the round of 16.
In the 76th minute, Vazquez scored with a header from a Wilson Eisner cross, putting San Diego ahead 2-1.
An 81st-minute header from Vazquez was saved, but Mighten was quick to score from the rebound, increasing the lead.
The fourth goal for San Diego FC came when a Pumas defender mishandled a clearance near the goal, allowing Bombino to pounce and score.
Pumas had initially taken the lead with a fantastic bicycle kick by Robert Morales in the 11th minute, assisted by Adalberto Carrasquilla.
