The Charlotte Hornets are making moves ahead of the NBA trade deadline on Thursday.
Charlotte acquires Coby White for bench support
In a surprising trade, the Hornets have made a deal with the Chicago Bulls to bring in guard Coby White and veteran point guard Mike Conley.
In exchange, the Bulls will get veteran guard Collin Sexton, young forward Ousmane Dieng, and three second-round picks. This trade allows White to return to his home state of North Carolina.
Coby White boosts Hornets with scoring
This season, White is averaging 18.6 points per game and has a three-point shooting percentage of 34.6. Though this is lower than Sexton’s 39.3 percent, Sexton averages 14.2 points per game.
White will become the leading option off the bench for Charlotte, adding even more scoring to what has been the top offense in the NBA over the past month.
Hornets are serious playoff contenders
Following a seven-game winning streak, the addition of White and Conley solidifies Charlotte’s status as playoff contenders. With the Bulls in sell mode and the Bucks missing Giannis Antetokounmpo for an extended period, the Hornets should aim for at least a spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament as the season concludes.
