Point guard Chris Paul is not having the season he hoped for as he approaches retirement.

The Los Angeles Clippers traded him to the Toronto Raptors in a three-team deal that also included the Brooklyn Nets. Paul has indicated he plans to retire after this season. He hasn’t played since December 2025, after parting ways with the Clippers due to differences with head coach Tyronn Lue. There’s a possibility he won’t step onto the court in Toronto.

ESPN insider Shams Charania reported that the Raptors don’t require him to report and may trade him again before the Thursday deadline at 3 p.m. ET. Chris Haynes also mentioned that Paul is likely to be waived.

At 40 years old, Paul hasn’t attracted much interest. In 16 games this season, he’s averaged a career-low 2.9 points per game, shooting 32.1% from the field, along with 3.3 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game.
