A Tottenham star has been added to Real Madrid’s shortlist to replace Dani Carvajal next season.
Pedro Porro joined Tottenham Hotspur from Sporting CP in January 2023 and has been a regular starter since then.
The Spanish international has improved his game significantly, displaying strong quality and leadership on the field. He is considered one of the top attacking full-backs in the Premier League, having provided two assists in 23 league matches this season.
Although Porro, like many of his teammates, has experienced a dip in form this season, he remains a target for a top European club ahead of the summer transfer window.
Pedro Porro added to Real Madrid’s shortlist to replace Dani Carvajal
A report from Spanish outlet Fichajes states that Real Madrid has placed Pedro Porro on their shortlist to succeed the iconic Dani Carvajal. Other players on that list include Wesley Franca of AS Roma and Konrad Laimer from Bayern Munich.
Dani Carvajal has been struggling to secure a starting spot under interim coach Alvaro Arbeloa, despite being fit. The player, who ranked 4th in the 2024 Ballon d’Or, has had limited appearances for Real Madrid recently, and with his contract ending this season, his time at the club seems to be nearing its conclusion.
Real Madrid acquired Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer from Liverpool last year. However, Alexander-Arnold has faced challenges maintaining consistency due to injuries at Santiago Bernabeu. This uncertainty around his future has made Porro an attractive option for the club’s decision-makers.
Porro would be tempted to join Real Madrid
Carvajal has been one of the best right-backs globally for many years, contributing to Madrid’s numerous titles. However, at 34 years old, he has struggled with injuries and form this season, especially after the removal of coach Xabi Alonso in January, leading to Arbeloa’s appointment.
As a result, Madrid is preparing for Carvajal’s future and sees Porro as a potential replacement. Nevertheless, Tottenham is not open to offers for their right-back, as he remains a vital player for the club. Despite not being at his best this season, Porro is known for his leadership and reliability at the back.
If Tottenham fails to qualify for European competition, Porro might consider leaving in the summer. Additionally, if Real Madrid expresses serious interest, it could sway him. The chance to play for one of the top teams in Europe and compete for major titles is a significant draw, and if Madrid approaches Tottenham for his services, Porro may seek to join them.
