Kevin Durant is not convinced that basketball’s global competition is on par with the United States. The Houston Rockets star has made his position clear and is unwavering.
In a recent discussion with ESPN, Durant challenged the idea that America is lagging behind Europe in player development. He is frustrated by comparisons between AAU basketball and the European system, arguing that the U.S. should not need to imitate it.
Durant believes there’s more to this issue than just coaching methods. He suggests the criticism targets Black Americans, who continue to excel and shape the sport at the highest level.
Stephen A. Smith backs Durant’s viewpoint
Durant’s remarks caught attention. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith expressed his strong support during a recent show, stating he stands firmly with Durant.
“I’m with Kevin Durant on this one,” Smith said. “He’s completely correct. We can discuss this from any angle, but the focus should not shift. Durant is absolutely right.
“You may not hear many people agreeing with me or Durant. I’m not trying to be confrontational; it’s not negative. I believe it’s my responsibility, since I agree with him, to speak up and show the courage he has shown, because he is spot on.”
