Juventus have long wanted to sign Sandro Tonali. Although there have been rumors about the Newcastle United player returning to Serie A, new information suggests this may not be true.
According to Craig Hope from the Daily Mail, Tonali is not planning a move back to Italy, where he previously played for Brescia and AC Milan.
Tonali feels that staying with Newcastle under Eddie Howe is the best choice for his career. He reportedly sees the Premier League as more competitive than Serie A.
This does not completely rule out a transfer to Manchester United or Arsenal, as many clubs in Europe are interested in Tonali. However, it appears he intends to remain at St. James’s Park for the time being.
For Serie A teams, especially Juventus, this news is disappointing. Italian clubs have struggled in the Champions League, with only Atalanta reaching the Round of 16 after Inter Milan and Juventus lost to underdog teams. Napoli, the reigning champions, did not advance beyond the group stage.
Juventus had a strong season from Manuel Locatelli and impressive performances from American Weston McKennie, who recently signed a contract extension. However, the midfield is lacking another creative player alongside Locatelli, making the inability to bring Tonali back to Italy a tough reality for them.
