Manchester United Seeks Midfield Replacement for 2026 Season
Manchester United is prioritizing a new midfielder as they prepare for the summer transfer window of 2026.
With Casemiro expected to leave at the season’s end, the club needs to fill a critical position in midfield.
They have identified around 17 potential candidates, including Newcastle’s captain Bruno Guimaraes.
According to AS, Casemiro has endorsed Guimaraes for the role based on their experiences with the Brazil national team.

United is also looking at Sandro Tonali, but Casemiro appears to prefer Guimaraes as his replacement from Newcastle.
The report indicates that Newcastle is in talks with Guimaraes about a new contract, but progress has stalled.
Guimaraes joined Newcastle in 2022 for £40 million and has become the club’s captain and a popular player among fans.
United will face Newcastle in Tyneside on Wednesday, but due to a hamstring injury, Guimaraes may not play against Casemiro in midfield.
Bruno Guimaraes Has £100m Release Clause in Contract
Manchester United showed interest in Guimaraes before his transfer to Newcastle, and this interest could be renewed as the summer window approaches.
In 2024, Manchester City was linked with him as well, revealing a £100 million release clause in his contract.
If Guimaraes does not finalize new terms, this clause will remain valid as they enter 2026.
Newcastle will likely not accept offers below that amount, meaning United would need to pay the full £100 million if they pursue Guimaraes based on Casemiro’s recommendation.
