Michael Carrick is optimistic that Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw may return for Manchester United‘s match against Newcastle.
Shaw played in the first half of Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace but had to leave the game early, with Noussair Mazraoui taking his place after just 24 minutes.
Maguire also departed the pitch, but he stayed on longer, with Jonny Evans coming on in the final minutes of normal time.

After Manchester United’s Premier League win against Crystal Palace, Michael Carrick addressed the situation regarding Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw.
He stated that both players were unwell rather than suffering from new injuries.
During his pre-match press conference at Carrington for the Newcastle game, Carrick expressed hope about their availability.
“We are hoping so, we are working towards it,” he said concerning their chances of being fit for the match.
He continued, “They weren’t feeling well. We will give them every chance. It wasn’t an injury, both weren’t feeling too good.”
No new updates on Mason Mount or Matthijs de Ligt ahead of Man Utd’s match with Newcastle
Currently, there are no updates on Mason Mount, who has missed Manchester United’s last five Premier League games due to an injury from late January.
The 27-year-old last played during Carrick’s first game as interim manager against Manchester City.
Mount, wearing the No 7 shirt, has appeared 19 times in all competitions this season, scoring three goals and providing one assist.
Matthijs de Ligt has not played since before Carrick took over from Ruben Amorim. The Dutch defender has missed the last 16 matches for United.
De Ligt has been sidelined since November due to a lower back problem. His last appearance was in the club’s away win over Crystal Palace earlier this year.
