There has been a lot of talk about Mohamed Salah’s drop in form this season compared to his top performance last year. He scored the only goal for Liverpool in their unexpected loss to Wolves, but fans remain critical of his current level.

Now, they are also pointing to another player from last year’s successful squad who is underperforming. Ryan Gravenberch, who shined in the previous season, is now seen as a liability in midfield, sharing the blame for Liverpool’s struggles this year.

Liverpool’s midfield has gone from one of the strongest in Europe to average, despite Dominik Szoboszlai enjoying a standout season. Gravenberch isn’t alone in his poor performance; Alexis Mac Allister has also been underwhelming. However, Gravenberch’s fall from the heights of last season has been particularly disappointing.

While he has recorded four goals and three assists, his overall contributions have diminished. His defensive work remains solid, but his ability to create chances and move the ball forward has significantly declined, affecting the team’s dynamics.

Liverpool struggles to advance the ball and control matches effectively, which has been noted by coach Arne Slot. Gravenberch’s unexpected decline at 23 has played a key role in this issue, and Slot needs to find a way to bring out his best form again.
