Patrice Evra has responded to Paul Scholes after Scholes’ comments regarding Michael Carrick.
Scholes stirred up discussions after Manchester United’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle when he posted a message on Instagram that seemed to mock Carrick’s recent performance as manager.
This post quickly went viral, leading to debates among supporters and former players about whether such criticism from club legends is going too far.

Evra discussed the situation during a conversation with Stake, expressing surprise at Scholes’ public remarks about Carrick.
The former player joked that he hoped Scholes’ social media was hacked.
He also noted a contradiction in Scholes’ behavior as a player compared to his role as a pundit.
“I hope Paul Scholes’ Instagram story is fake, I hope he was hacked. To be honest, I’m not surprised at that from Scholesy. He was the quietest player I’ve ever played with. Now, he makes headlines in the media,” Evra said.
Evra Critiques Pundits Like Roy Keane and Gary Neville
Evra felt the criticism of Carrick has been too harsh, mentioning former Manchester United players Roy Keane and Gary Neville, who also commentate on games.
While acknowledging their media roles, Evra stated that criticizing from the sidelines is often easier compared to actual management.
“There’s been negative analysis from Scholesy, but also from Roy Keane and Gary Neville. It annoys me because we aim to be in the top four, and those comments are unnecessary. This is what happens on TV; you can’t always be positive,” he said.
He also made a light-hearted remark about Neville’s time as manager at Valencia.
“Most of these guys get a managerial job and get fired straightaway. I told Neville: ‘It’s easy to talk on TV. When you were at Valencia, they wanted paella, and you gave them fish and chips.’”
