Iran Withdraws from 2026 FIFA World Cup
Iran has decided to withdraw from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This decision comes amid ongoing political tensions with the U.S. and Israel. Iran’s announcement highlights concerns over actions taken by the U.S. and Israel leading to the killing of Qassem Soleimani, and the conflicts that followed.
The news was officially shared by Iran’s Sports Minister, Ahmad Dojnamaali, on national television. Given the backdrop of wars that have resulted in thousands of deaths, the Iranian team will not participate in the tournament in the U.S.
