Gary Neville remains a significant figure in Manchester even after his football career, frequently engaging in discussions about the city and Manchester United.
The former United defender has been vocal about the club’s need for a new permanent manager after the exit of Ruben Amorim in early 2026.
Outside of football, Neville is increasingly focused on business and development projects throughout Manchester.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Neville’s property company, Relentless Developments, has announced plans for a significant redevelopment project in the city centre.
This plan centers around transforming the historic Kendals building on Deansgate, a well-known landmark in Manchester.
The initiative aims to create a new neighbourhood called the Kendals District, which will include office spaces, hospitality venues, leisure facilities, retail spaces, and residential units.
The project will prominently feature the renovation of the former Kendal Milne building, which opened in 1939 and has been a staple for shoppers in Manchester.
Developers intend to offer around 230,000 square feet of contemporary office space while keeping the building’s historic charm intact.
This regeneration effort is a partnership between Relentless Developments and Investec, supported by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.
Manchester’s mayor, Andy Burnham, confirmed that £44 million from the region’s £1 billion Good Growth Fund will support the redevelopment.
Anthony Kilbride, the chief executive of Relentless Developments, stated that the project is part of a broader vision for the area.
“Kendals is a complex heritage retrofit that reflects not just the building but our vision for this part of the city,” he noted.
“As one of Manchester’s iconic landmarks, this site is ideally located to lead district-wide regeneration and become a gateway to a new neighbourhood.”
Kilbride emphasized that the Kendals District is designed as a comprehensive redevelopment effort, not just an individual project.
“The Kendals District represents a cohesive and thoughtfully planned area that integrates workspace, hospitality, culture, and public space, creating lasting value for the city.”
Relentless Developments has previously undertaken several significant projects in Manchester.
One of these is the St Michael’s development on Jackson’s Row, a large project featuring a luxury W Hotel and branded residential apartments.
As the Kendals District project progresses, Neville’s influence on Manchester’s urban landscape continues to expand alongside his active role in discussions related to Manchester United.
