Manchester United is considering a move for West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes if the London club faces relegation at the end of the season.

Currently, West Ham is in 18th place in the Premier League, tied on points with Nottingham Forest in 17th, and just one point behind Tottenham Hotspur in 16th.

Mateus Fernandes plans for exit if West Ham is relegated

Fernandes is reportedly looking to leave the London Stadium if Nuno Espirito Santo cannot keep the club from going down, according to talkSPORT.

The 21-year-old has been recognized as a key player this season following his £42 million transfer from Southampton last August. It’s possible he may not stay for the full five years of his contract.

It is unclear what fee West Ham would seek for Fernandes if he pushes for a move.

Born in Olhão and a product of Sporting Lisbon’s academy, Fernandes is yet to earn his first senior cap for Portugal. He will be looking to impress enough to catch the eye of national coach Roberto Martinez before the World Cup.

Fernandes among young EPL talents on United’s radar

Fernandes is one of several young players being evaluated by Manchester United as they prepare for Casemiro’s potential departure in June. Other targets include Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, and Elliot Anderson.

Fernandes has worked hard to establish himself in the Premier League over the past two seasons, making a total of 63 appearances so far.
