Sir Jim Ratcliffe avoided discussing rumors about Manchester United’s next permanent manager.

The co-owner of the Red Devils was approached by Sky Sports at the Formula One event this weekend and was asked about the potential candidates for the managerial position at Old Trafford.

What did Ratcliffe say about Carrick?

In response to a question about interim manager Michael Carrick, who has achieved six victories in his first eight matches, Ratcliffe stated, “He is doing an excellent job. Yeah, absolutely.”

When pressed further on whether Carrick could be permanently appointed, he replied, “No, not going there!”

Ratcliffe also mentioned that United is on track to qualify for the Champions League by May, saying, “Clearly, we’re thinking about that, but there are still seven or eight games to go, so still a while yet.”

Why supporters would like Carrick to remain

Many fans would like Carrick to continue as manager beyond the summer.

As a former player who has consistently praised the club, he has made a significant impact since taking over after Ruben Amorim’s departure earlier this year.

His leadership has positioned the team well for a Champions League spot and even allowed them to surpass Aston Villa in third place, who will visit M16 tomorrow for an important match at 2 PM.

Fans are considering how different the season might have been if Carrick had been in charge since the start of the 2025/2026 season, a thought that INEOS executives are likely sharing as well.
