The Oklahoma City Thunder are on track to win their second consecutive NBA championship. They strengthened their roster by acquiring sharpshooter Jared McCain in a trade.

OKC traded their 2026 first-round pick and three second-round picks to the Philadelphia 76ers for McCain, who was the No. 16 pick in the 2024 draft. Although McCain faced challenges in Philadelphia, he has quickly made an impact with the Thunder, scoring 26 points in a 121-92 victory against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday.

Jared McCain meets a key need for the OKC Thunder

The Thunder have struggled with three-point shooting, ranking 15th in attempts and 13th in percentage. Jalen Williams’ injury has affected their outside game, and other key guards like Lu Dort (33%), Alex Caruso (29.7%), Cason Wallace (33.9%), and Ajay Mitchell (34%) have also had difficulties from beyond the arc.

McCain’s arrival has addressed this issue. He averages 2.2 three-pointers per game on five attempts, boasting an impressive 44% shooting percentage. The 22-year-old guard excels with dribble screens and handoffs in the Thunder’s offensive setup, benefiting from his quick release on shots.
