Recently, Manchester United has shown interest in Sandro Tonali as a key target for their midfield rebuild this summer.

Casemiro is set to leave Old Trafford after four years, having had a standout season, which creates the need for a new player ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Newcastle United’s Tonali is a leading candidate to partner with Kobbie Mainoo in the midfield, and Manchester United is currently in a strong position to sign him.

However, new developments have emerged.

This morning, it was revealed that a gentleman’s agreement was supposedly in place for Tonali to move on if Newcastle fails to secure a spot in European competitions.

But Luke Edwards of the Telegraph has reported on X that this agreement does not exist.

He stated that Newcastle has clarified that there is no such agreement and added that while it doesn’t completely rule out a summer transfer, Tonali hasn’t expressed a desire to leave the club.

Additionally, Newcastle has not received any offers yet, with clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Arsenal also mentioned as potential suitors alongside Manchester United.

This adds a new layer to the transfer story, which is likely to continue evolving as the summer window approaches.

Meanwhile, with Italy advancing to the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, Tonali is currently focused on his national duties. He played a crucial role in Italy’s 2-0 victory against Northern Ireland, scoring the first goal and providing an assist for Moise Kean.
