Tottenham Plans Squad Improvements Ahead of Next Season
Tottenham Hotspur is preparing to enhance its squad as the club aims to secure its Premier League status by the end of the month.
The North London team must avoid any significant slip-ups at this crucial stage of the season, with Roberto de Zerbi at the helm guiding them towards safety. Fresh additions across several positions are urgently needed. However, if relegation occurs, Tottenham would face challenges in attracting top talents.
Clearly, the Lilywhites require a squad overhaul this summer, starting with bolstering their creative midfield. Following Xavi Simons’ ACL injury and Mohammed Kudus’ season-ending injury after a quad issue, Spurs must prioritize recruiting a creative attacker.
Roberto De Zerbi cannot depend on James Maddison to consistently perform next season, especially since the England international has not played this season while recovering from an ACL problem. Thus, the Italian manager must secure a playmaker to enhance their attack.
Tottenham Inquires About Real Madrid’s Franco Mastantuono
Recent reports indicate that Tottenham is monitoring Real Madrid midfielder Franco Mastantuono, as the North London club keeps a close eye on the teenager’s situation in Spain. It is believed that he may seek a move ahead of next season to gain more regular playing time.
Franco Mastantuono, regarded as one of the most promising talents, joined Real Madrid from River Plate last summer. However, adapting to European football has seen him struggle for consistent playing time. Frustration surrounds the player due to a lack of support from interim Real Madrid manager Alvaro Arbeloa after Xabi Alonso’s departure.
A report from Spanish outlet Fichajes states that Real Madrid has rejected Tottenham’s opening bid of €45 million for Mastantuono, as they see him as a key prospect for the future and are hesitant to let him go after just one season.
Los Blancos are open to a loan deal with a substantial purchase option set at €70 million. They would consider a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for this amount, contingent on Spurs qualifying for European competition next season. Signing the teenager, who is seen as Lionel Messi’s heir in Argentina, poses a challenge for Tottenham.
Assessing the Feasibility of a Loan Deal for Mastantuono
Bringing in a creative and versatile talent like Mastantuono could significantly benefit Tottenham next season. The Argentine, known for his technical skills, energy, and strong left foot, would fit well within De Zerbi’s system. The Italian manager has a history of developing young talents and would welcome the opportunity to work with the player.
However, since Madrid is not ready to authorize a permanent transfer, Spurs could only aim for a season-long loan with an option to buy. If Mastantuono excels and proves his worth, Tottenham may choose to secure his services permanently. Conversely, if he does not meet expectations, the 18-year-old will return to Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the 2026/27 campaign.
It remains uncertain whether the Lilywhites are prepared to accept the terms set by Madrid, while they also need to persuade Mastantuono to join them at White Hart Lane.
