Iga Świątek is seeking a new coach after ending her partnership with Wim Fissette this week.
Although she won the 2025 Wimbledon Ladies Singles title with his support, there are suggestions that her time with Fissette was not as productive as expected.
Her performance has dropped at the beginning of this year, and she aims to improve on clay in the upcoming months.
So far this season, Świątek has won only the United Cup and faced a setback after losing in the second round to Magda Linette at the Miami Open, calling it her “worst nightmare.”
Mark Petchey, coach of Emma Raducanu, discussed Świątek’s decision to move on from Fissette:

“I wasn’t surprised,” Petchey said on the Big T podcast. “I sensed they might part ways after Australia.”
“One major issue was her serve. They tried various technical adjustments, but by the end, it seemed mechanical. It appeared tough for her to generate pace on the second serve.”
“When your serve isn’t effective, it puts pressure on your game from the start. You feel like you should dominate, but it doesn’t happen.”
“Wim is a great coach, but even the best can have blind spots. Sometimes, what seems like a better approach on paper can lead to worse results.”
Iga Świątek’s 2026 season highlights
In 2026, Świątek has participated in eight tournaments. She reached the final at Indian Wells, where she lost to Naomi Osaka, who has been excelling since returning from maternity leave.
The Polish player also reached two quarterfinals, one at Adelaide International 1 and another at WTA Dubai, along with Round Four showings in both Abu Dhabi and Brisbane International 1.
Future prospects for Fissette
Fissette is a well-respected coach in tennis, having worked with several top players.
He built his reputation with Kim Clijsters, helping her win three Grand Slam titles during their partnership.
Additionally, he has coached Angelique Kerber and Naomi Osaka, further solidifying his status.
Currently, a high-profile coaching vacancy is available with Carlos Alcaraz, who recently parted ways with his long-time coach Juan Carlos Ferrero. However, since Fissette has never coached on the ATP Tour, this move seems unlikely at the moment.
