The majority of Manchester United players are currently away on international duty, stepping back from their domestic commitments.

Michael Carrick’s team, holding third place in the Premier League with seven matches remaining, will resume play on April 13 against Leeds United at Old Trafford.

The main goal for the remainder of the season is to secure Champions League football for 2026/27, and winning matches is the most effective way to achieve this.

With the men’s team on a break due to international games, attention shifts to Manchester United Women.

Third in the Women’s Super League, Marc Skinner’s team is making progress.

They are in the Champions League quarter-finals but lost the first leg against Bayern Munich 3-2 on Wednesday and also lost the League Cup final to Chelsea.

Like the men’s team, Skinner and his staff are aiming for a place in next season’s European competition.

Currently, they have 38 points from 19 matches and face three remaining games against Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Chelsea.

However, their chances of winning the title have ended following a setback against Manchester City on Saturday, where they suffered a 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford, with Vivianne Miedema scoring two quick goals.

Kerstin Casparij added a third goal just after halftime, leaving the home side unable to respond.

With City leading the title race with 49 points from 19 matches, they have established a significant advantage over their rivals.

It now appears inevitable that Andree Jeglertz’s City will claim the WSL title, given their clear superiority in the league.

After the defeat, Skinner remarked that fatigue may have impacted his players following their mid-week match against Bayern.

“I’m not disappointed with any of the players, I’m disappointed with the result,” Skinner said, as reported by ESPN, adding, “It’s a tough loss, but the players are giving their all.

“We have limited squad options due to our busy schedule. I believe the players are doing everything possible. We are making typical mistakes caused by mental fatigue.”

The 43-year-old also noted the strength of City’s bench as a factor in their victory at Old Trafford.

As it stands, the bragging rights belong to the blue side of Manchester, leaving United with much to address behind the scenes.
