A significant piece of Manchester United‘s history is up for auction. Former manager Sir Matt Busby allowed a private vendor to take it in 1992.
This item is among several valuable pieces from one of the world’s most iconic football clubs being sold.
The sign is not the only historical item available at this auction.
Historic sign for sale
A sign that once hung at Old Trafford’s Stretford End is being auctioned, as reported by the BBC.
The sign, removed in 1992, features “Manchester United” in large 3ft (91cm) letters, along with 12 smaller letters that read “football club.”
Graham Budd Auctioneers, which is handling the sale, noted that Sir Matt Busby permitted the private vendor to take the sign when it was taken down from the Stretford End.
The sign’s value has likely increased, especially with a possible new stadium in the works, as Manchester United has announced plans for a 100,000-seat arena.
Ronaldo’s boots also up for sale
A pair of Cristiano Ronaldo’s golden boots, discarded in a bin after training during his time at Manchester United, will also be auctioned, with a starting price of £15,000.
According to Graham Budd Auctioneers, the gold Nike Vapor boots were retrieved by cleaner Tony Heywood after Ronaldo wore them in 2004.
Heywood likely recognized the future value of the cleats worn by a player who became one of football’s greats.
Both items will be auctioned in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, on 28 April, attracting many Manchester United supporters looking to own a piece of club heritage.
