Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford is on the verge of seeking a transfer during the summer window as he aims for more playing time. The 23-year-old has expressed his intentions to the club’s management, as he has struggled to secure a starting position against Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Florian Plettenberg, a respected journalist, reported on his X social media account that Trafford is prepared to leave Manchester City to find a club where he can contribute more regularly on the pitch. The club is reportedly aware of his desires, though Donnarumma currently holds the number one goalkeeper position under manager Pep Guardiola.

Brighton appears to be a potential destination for Trafford, especially as they may lose Bart Verbruggen this summer. Since joining Manchester City in the summer of 2025 from Burnley for €31.2 million, Trafford has not been able to outperform Donnarumma for the starting role.

This season, Trafford has made 10 appearances for Manchester City, conceding 10 goals and keeping 7 clean sheets. His current market value is estimated at €25 million, according to Transfermarkt.
