Manchester United Secures Victory Against Brentford Without Matheus Cunha
Matheus Cunha praised his teammates for achieving another vital win, this time against Brentford, despite his absence. Manchester United claimed a 2-1 victory on home turf, leaving them two points shy of qualifying for the Champions League with four matches remaining.
Matheus Cunha misses out in win over Brentford
After netting the sole goal in United’s past 1-0 victory over Chelsea, Cunha was sidelined this time due to an injury. He felt discomfort in his groin and was substituted in the closing moments at Stamford Bridge, leading to his absence in this match.
Michael Carrick opted for a front three composed of Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko, who scored his tenth Premier League goal of the season.
What did Cunha have to say at full-time?
Following the match, Cunha shared his support for the team on Instagram, showing he was present at Old Trafford and captioning his post: “Bravo guys! We all love that!” He also posted a photo of his fellow Brazilian, Casemiro, celebrating his opening goal while holding up the United badge, with the caption: “One more year… Casemiro.”
Cunha now has six days to regain match fitness in hopes of being ready for the upcoming clash against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, scheduled for a 3:30 PM kick-off.
Carrick will be hoping Cunha is back by Sunday
This fixture could mark United’s first league double over their longtime rivals in a decade, making Carrick eager to have as much offensive strength available as possible. Although Cunha missed this match, Patrick Dorgu made his long-awaited return to the matchday squad after a three-month absence.
While the manager ultimately chose not to deploy Dorgu, he may have reconsidered if United had been trailing, but his return still represents a significant boost for the team’s final four matches.
