Kobbie Mainoo Signs Long-Term Contract with Manchester United
Kobbie Mainoo has had a rollercoaster of a year, from asking to leave the club to now securing his long-term future at Old Trafford.
At the end of last summer, the England international had already fallen out of favour with Ruben Amorim, and as such requested a loan spell away.
The request was ultimately rejected by the United hierarchy, showing a split in opinion between them and the head coach, yet he still remained on the bench.
However, the departure of Amorim saw Mainoo return to the pitch as a regular starter under Michael Carrick, partnering a rejuvenated Casemiro in the heart of the pitch.
Thanks to his return to form, not only has Kobbie Mainoo restored his place in the England squad, but he’s also finally put pen to paper on a new contract.
Fabrizio Romano reported on X that the young English midfielder signed his contract which will run until June 2031.
The deal will see the 21-year-old rewarded with a significant salary increase, reflecting his growing importance in the first-team setup and elevating him into the club’s higher earners despite his age.
Since the appointment of Michael Carrick, Mainoo has become a consistent starter, featuring in 12 of United’s last 13 league matches and quickly re-establishing himself as a key part of the midfield structure.
A product of United’s academy system, Mainoo has already made 98 senior appearances since his debut in 2023, marking him out as one of the standout young players to emerge from the club in recent years.
With Mainoo’s long-term future sealed, United can now look to rebuilding their midfield around him, with Casemiro on the brink of departure to Inter Miami and Manuel Ugarte underperforming.
As such, The Red Devils have been looking to the likes of Sandro Tonali, Elliot Anderson and even Aurelien Tchouameni as potential replacements.
While it’s not yet known who United are going to sign this summer, it is expected that two new stars will arrive at Old Trafford, as the club’s new midfield takes shape.
