Paula Badosa Discusses Fitness Struggles and Plans for a Break
Paula Badosa recently spoke with Mario Suarez on his YouTube channel about her ongoing fitness challenges, updating fans on her situation since her recent comments to Tennishead.
Although there hasn’t been a significant new setback, her physical struggles were apparent during her latest loss in Madrid.
Badosa shared, “I think what happened to me here in Madrid is that I was wasting so much energy battling my own issues in that regard, and I was so worn out over these past months that I reached a point in the third set, and my mind completely shut down.”
“I felt totally empty, and right after that, I had a conversation with my team. It was quite interesting, all of us in my room, because I think I need some time right now to stop and mentally assess what’s going on, to recharge a bit.”
“I’m someone who loves to come back and fight, but I’m reaching a point where I’m getting a little exhausted. So we’ve decided to take a break, although I don’t know if it will be three or four weeks or two. Honestly, it’s only been two days. I’m asking to come back.”
“But I don’t think it’s very healthy for me to do that, so I’m going to slow down a bit, especially mentally.”
When asked about Roland Garros by Mario Suarez, Badosa replied:
Currently ranked 101st in the world according to the WTA rankings, Badosa has entered qualifying for Roland Garros this month.
Impact of Injuries on Paula Badosa’s Career
After a standout season in 2022 that saw her rise as high as second in the world rankings, Paula Badosa appeared poised to break into the sport’s elite tier.
However, that year marked the start of a prolonged series of injuries.
In the following year, after dealing with thigh and abductor problems, she suffered a stress fracture in her back that sidelined her for the remainder of the season.
Badosa was then out of competition from May to September 2024 due to another back issue, and by September, she admitted to contemplating retirement because of the persistent pain. This challenge continued into 2025, as a torn labrum added further complications.
She has struggled to maintain her health or regain consistent form since then. By 2026, the setbacks continued, with little progress made towards returning to full strength.
