Roberto De Zerbi Secures First Win as Tottenham Manager Against Wolves
Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has demonstrated resilience and determination in his players, as evidenced in three matches since taking charge.
Since becoming Tottenham’s head coach during the March international break, De Zerbi has managed to secure four points from a possible nine. After a frustrating draw against Brighton and Hove Albion, his team bounced back with a 1-0 victory over relegated Wolves at Molineux. Although this marked De Zerbi’s first win at the helm, it did not elevate the club from the relegation zone.
Tottenham will next face Aston Villa on Sunday, as they urgently seek three points in the Premier League. Following a loss by relegation rivals West Ham to Brentford on Saturday, this presents a significant opportunity to escape the drop zone.
Antonin Kinsky Discusses Roberto De Zerbi’s Impact
Goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky has played in the last three matches for Tottenham, stepping in for Guglielmo Vicario, who is recovering from hernia surgery. The 23-year-old made a crucial save against Wolves, stopping a free-kick from João Gomes in stoppage time to secure the victory.
In a recent interview, Kinsky reflected on De Zerbi’s influence since taking over from Igor Tudor. He emphasized that the 46-year-old has fostered a positive mindset within the squad.
“By the way he speaks, what you read and what you hear from him is that he believes in us and that is a big message that he gives us overall: that the quality is there in the squad,” Kinsky stated in an interview with Sky Sports.
“It’s just not to speak about it but to show it. With the combination, with the style that he wants to play, I think our squad fits to that so I believe this is going to work.
“Now we have four points from three games, there are four left, and I hope, and I believe that this is the right way.”
De Zerbi Maintains Faith in His Squad
De Zerbi has faced several challenges recently, losing key players such as Cristian Romero, Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons, and Dominic Solanke due to season-ending injuries. Nevertheless, the Italian coach has not voiced complaints about the squad’s lack of depth.
Instead, he believes that “losers cry,” and encourages his players to give their all in the fight against relegation. De Zerbi remains confident that Tottenham possesses the “qualities” needed to win the remaining four games and avoid the drop.
Despite facing criticism for his emotional style, De Zerbi’s attitude has offered a refreshing perspective for fans. His positivity and determination have positively influenced the players, leading to noticeably better performances.
