Tigres UANL Secures Spot in CONCACAF Champions Cup Final with Victory Over Nashville SC

Juan Brunetta’s goal in the 68th minute broke a scoreless tie and established a lead that Nashville SC could not recover from, as Tigres UANL claimed their second consecutive 1-0 victory on Tuesday night at Estadio Universitario in San Nicolas de los Garza, Mexico, securing a place in the CONCACAF Champions Cup final.

This win, combined with Tigres’ 1-0 victory in Nashville on April 28, resulted in a 2-0 aggregate score. Tigres will now face the winner of the other semifinal, where Toluca meets Los Angeles FC. LAFC won 2-1 in Los Angeles on April 29, and the second leg will take place Wednesday at Estadio Nemesio Diez in Toluca, Mexico.

The final is scheduled for May 30.

This marks Tigres’ fifth appearance in the championship match. The club won the title in 2020 and finished as runners-up in 2016, 2017, and 2019.

In Tuesday’s game, Brunetta received the ball from Angel Correa during a quick throw-in along the left sideline. After Correa evaded Nashville defender Jeisson Palacios, he passed it back to Brunetta, who then executed a fake shot to send a defender to the ground. With a deft dribble, Brunetta fired a shot over the head of Nashville goalkeeper Brian Schwake.

Tigres outshot Nashville 9-6, managing the only two shots on target throughout the match. Schwake recorded one save, while Nahuel Guzman secured a shutout without needing to make a save.
