Manchester United‘s upcoming matches could significantly impact the club’s plans as they prepare for a major summer rebuild at Old Trafford.
Several players are facing uncertain futures despite the team securing Champions League qualification with a recent Liverpool/”>3-2 win over Liverpool.
One player who has shown support for Michael Carrick to secure the permanent managerial position is Amad Diallo.
Recent reports indicate that Sunderland is interested in re-signing Diallo, following his successful loan spell at the Stadium of Light.
According to The i Paper, Sunderland has made repeated attempts to bring Diallo back, although Manchester United has consistently rejected these offers, with strong interest in the winger still evident behind the scenes.
The 23-year-old had a standout period during his loan at Sunderland under Tony Mowbray, scoring 13 goals in 42 appearances in the 2022/23 season and quickly becoming a fan favorite.
Mowbray praised Diallo as a ‘genius’ in an interview with The i Paper. “With Amad the ball was just stuck to his left foot; no one could get the ball off him or get anywhere near him,” Mowbray stated. “This kid is a genius. Why hasn’t he been playing?”
Despite Sunderland’s admiration, Manchester United still seems to hold Amad in high regard internally. Carrick has frequently commended him publicly since taking over after Ruben Amorim’s dismissal in January.
However, the report also mentions growing uncertainties about Diallo’s long-term future due to some inconsistent performances in the latter half of the season.
Interestingly, Manchester United is scheduled to face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday. The match could see several absentees from both squads, with six players currently unavailable.
It remains uncertain whether Amad Diallo will start, but Sunderland fans are likely to greet him warmly, recalling the fond memories from his loan period.
