The Spanish national team is facing a crucial setback just ahead of the World Cup as Real Sociedad winger Ander Barrenetxea has sustained a significant injury.

Details: As reported by Cope, Barrenetxea has injured the long adductor muscle in his left hip. Medical examinations have confirmed that this injury will prevent him from recovering in time for the tournament, leading to his exclusion from La Roja’s squad.

This news comes as a harsh blow for the 24-year-old, who was enjoying a standout season in La Liga. Considered a key rotational player by coach Luis de la Fuente, Barrenetxea was expected to enhance the team’s attacking options with his speed and dribbling skills. The coaching staff will now need to urgently find a suitable replacement.

The complete list of players selected for the World Cup is anticipated to be released soon. Barrenetxea had already made his debut for the national team during a match against Egypt in March.
