Miguel Cardoso, the head coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, emphasized the necessity of a solid defensive performance as they prepare for the CAF Champions League final against ASFAR. With the first leg of the final set to take place at Loftus Versveld, Cardoso highlighted the significance of not conceding goals, particularly due to the away goal rule that remains in effect for CAF competitions.
Cardoso remarked on the potential implications of conceding goals at home, stating, “Considering the rules of the tournament and the fact that still in the CAF competitions the away goals are a factor that may decide games, it’s obviously important that we look for a positive result.” He stressed that allowing goals at home could impact their performance in the away match.
The coach emphasized the need for a comprehensive strategy, noting, “We need to be a very complete team after tomorrow, in the four moments of the game and organise ourselves while we play.” He acknowledged that while aiming for a positive outcome is crucial, the stakes of such matches require a balanced approach throughout the game.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 4 PM.
