Divine Lunga has expressed confidence that his Mamelodi Sundowns team will overcome their recent disappointment in the Betway Premiership as they prepare for the Caf Champions League final. Sundowns are set to face Morocco’s ASFAR in the first leg of the final tomorrow, following a narrow 3-2 defeat to TS Galaxy that has impacted their bid for the PSL title.

The Zimbabwean-born left-back acknowledged that setbacks are a natural part of football and emphasized the importance of moving on. “Losing is part of football, but after the match the coach spoke to us to pick us up,” Lunga stated after training at Chloorkop. He noted a positive atmosphere among the team, saying, “I think the guys are in the good mood cause you have to understand that in football you lose, draw and win. We will do our best.”

This match will mark Sundowns’ second final appearance in two years in the continental competition. The team faced disappointment last season when they lost to Egyptian side Pyramids. Lunga stressed the need to capitalize on their experiences, indicating, “We have been playing semis, the final and that has been pushing us to bring the trophy home.”

With a decade without a title in this competition, Lunga emphasized the urgency for the team to succeed this season, stating, “It’s been a decade and we need it this season, more than anything cause last season we were there. We will push ourselves, put our A game to try and win the match.” The final is scheduled to kick off at 4 PM.
