Jadon Sancho Approaches Free Agency as Manchester United Contract Expires
Jadon Sancho is on the brink of becoming a free agent, as his contract with Manchester United comes to an end this summer.
However, losing the winger won’t be an issue for The Red Devils, given he’s spent the last three seasons out on loan, with Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and now Aston Villa.
Despite arriving at Old Trafford in 2021 for £73.7 million after a sensational rise at Borussia Dortmund, the former England international failed to live up to his price tag.
Over recent years, United have attempted to reclaim some of his transfer fee by offloading him with significant interest in Italy from Juventus and AS Roma.
Unfortunately though, despite deals with both sides getting close, the commission for his agent that makes up part of the transfer fees were too great for either club to agree to, seeing him continuously head out on loan.
As such, United made the call to let his contract run out at Villa Park, rather than extend his contract and risk failing to sell him yet again.
However, with Aston Villa now preparing for the Europa League final against Freiburg tomorrow night, the 26-year-old is set to make history.
Last season, while on loan with Chelsea, Jadon Sancho made it to the Conference League final, scoring as they beat Real Betis 4-1.
Then, the year before that, while on loan with Borussia Dortmund for the second half of the 2023/24 season, he appeared in the Champions League final against Real Madrid.
Now, if Jadon Sancho appears for Villa against Freiburg, he’ll be the first person to play in three consecutive European finals, let alone the fact they have all been loan spells.
While the consistent loans haven’t helped Sancho to settle into any one side, his consistent experience in European competitions could go some way to support a side sign him for a free this summer.
