Manchester United Academy Players Poised for Senior Debut Opportunities
Several academy players have already moved closer to a Manchester United debut as the club continues focusing heavily on youth development.
Fifteen-year-old wonderkid JJ Gabriel is expected to be part of the club’s upcoming pre-season tour after another outstanding campaign through the academy ranks.
Shea Lacey also achieved a major milestone earlier this season.
The 19-year-old made his Premier League debut against Aston Villa.
Now, two more academy stars could be handed opportunities by Michael Carrick before the 2025/26 campaign officially comes to an end.
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are considering involving a pair of highly-rated youngsters for the final Premier League game of the season against Brighton.
Carrick has already hinted that academy opportunities could arrive.
With third place already secured and Champions League qualification confirmed, changes are expected for the trip to Brighton.
Big ones.
The report claims that two of the players under serious consideration are midfielder Jim Thwaites and defender Godwill Kukonki.
Both players have spent periods training around the first-team squad this season and are highly regarded internally at Carrington.
Kukonki, still only 18, has already been named in multiple senior matchday squads this season.
The defender has impressed heavily at academy level too.
He has recorded nine clean sheets in 15 appearances this season while also winning 70 per cent of his aerial duels.
Thwaites has equally enjoyed an excellent campaign.
The technically gifted midfielder scored nine goals and registered four assists in 24 Under-18 Premier League appearances this season.
Both players also started for United in the recent FA Youth Cup final defeat against Manchester City.
Thwaites provided the cross for Kukonki’s headed equaliser during the 2-1 defeat.
Now, both youngsters could be rewarded with senior debuts under Carrick against Brighton on the final day of the Premier League season.
