Tottenham Approached Enzo Maresca for Managerial Position Before Hiring Roberto De Zerbi
Ben Jacobs reported via talkSPORT that Enzo Maresca was contacted by Tottenham shortly after Igor Tudor’s departure in late March, before the club successfully persuaded Roberto De Zerbi to take the managerial role.
This information surfaced alongside the news that Maresca has finalized terms to succeed Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, with Fabrizio Romano confirming the agreement and Chelsea poised to receive a significant compensation package from the transfer.
Tudor was dismissed after Tottenham suffered a 5-2 defeat against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, coupled with a streak of four consecutive losses in the Premier League that left the club in the relegation zone without any points under his leadership. Johan Lange and Tottenham’s decision-makers quickly identified their managerial targets and initiated contact. Spurs reached out to Maresca immediately following Tudor’s exit, prior to securing Roberto De Zerbi as their new manager. Additionally, Real Madrid approached Maresca following Xabi Alonso’s departure, and AC Milan also contacted his agent, Jorge Mendes.
