Mamelodi Sundowns defender Keanu Cupido has made a surprising return to the starting lineup just two weeks after suffering a dislocated shoulder. Cupido was injured during a PSL match against Kaizer Chiefs, which ended in a 1-1 draw, raising concerns about his long-term availability.
His unexpected recovery was confirmed when he started in the Caf Champions League first leg final against ASFAR on Sunday. Cupido revealed that he received an injection to numb the pain from the dislocated shoulder, allowing him to participate in the crucial match.
“I had to take an injection, but I’ll do anything for the badge. If the team needs me I have to be there through pain or whatever else, but I’m happy to be on the field again,” Cupido stated. His coach opted for Cupido to play despite other defenders like Malibongwe Khoza and Zuko Mdunyelwa being available.
Looking ahead, Cupido emphasized the importance of the return leg in Morocco, highlighting that Sundowns will approach the match with a narrow 1-0 lead.
