Manchester United Begins Search for Casemiro’s Replacement Following Departure
Manchester United are now preparing for life without Casemiro after the veteran midfielder played his last game at Old Trafford this weekend.
The 34-year-old has been essential for United this year, having a career-best season for goal contributions, scoring nine and grabbing two assists in 34 games.
However, this weekend’s final match in the Premier League season against Brighton and Hove Albion will bring an end to his four years at the club since arriving from Real Madrid in 2022.
With Casemiro leaving as a free agent, there’s no doubt that United are looking for his replacement this summer, with £150 million put aside to cover three midfield signings, including £80 million to replace the Brazil international.
Now though, it’s understood that one option for his replacement is set to be playing alongside the veteran star at the 2026 World Cup, being called up by Carlo Ancelotti.
Manchester United Target Danilo to Replace Casemiro
At the start of the month, United made contact with Botafogo for former Nottingham Forest midfielder Danilo. However, they have now solidified their interest, as ESPN have reported that The Red Devils are continuing to monitor the defensive midfielder.
The report claims that he is currently being considered as one of the top options to succeed Casemiro, despite United’s shortlist including the likes of Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali, and Aurelien Tchouameni.
Danilo’s Premier League experience works in his favour, as The Red Devils are routinely looking for proven Premier League players of late, as seen with the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
Another advantage for United is Botafogo’s current financial struggles. The Brazilian side are understood to be open to offload Danilo, knowing his price tag of £35 million going some way to ease the financial pressures of the club.
However, with the World Cup just around the corner, a strong showing from the 22-year-old could see his valuation get boosted, or other clubs enter the mix for his services.
