Tottenham Eyes Benfica Striker Vangelis Pavlidis Amid Relegation Concerns
Tottenham Hotspur is considering a significant summer overhaul following a challenging 2025/26 season. As part of this strategy, the club is paying particular attention to the striking position.
Recent reports indicate that Tottenham is among the clubs monitoring Benfica striker Vangelis Pavlidis, with intentions to pursue him during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The 27-year-old Greek international has scored 30 goals and provided six assists across all competitions this season, presenting an opportunity for Spurs to enhance their attacking power at N17.
No Offer Made Yet
However, Tottenham faces competition for Pavlidis’s signature; Premier League rivals Aston Villa, along with Italian clubs AC Milan and AS Roma, have also expressed interest.
According to the latest update from Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, as relayed by Sport Witness, despite keen interest and monitoring, no formal offers have yet been made to Benfica president Rui Costa. Thus, while the clubs admire Pavlidis, none have presented an initial bid.
Benfica acquired Pavlidis for €18m, but they are likely to demand a significant premium this summer. Currently, no figures are publicly under discussion in Portugal, but it is reasonable to expect that his two elite seasons in the #9 role will command a fee well above his original signing price.
Both Aston Villa & Tottenham Need Pavlidis
Tottenham is grappling with issues in the #9 position. Former Bournemouth star Dominic Solanke is anticipated to be the main target up front, but his injury struggles since joining Tottenham have been notable. Meanwhile, Richarlison has primarily filled in for him but is also expected to leave N17 this summer, creating an opportunity for a new striker at Hotspur Way.
Aston Villa also stands to benefit from acquiring Pavlidis, particularly as Ollie Watkins is attracting interest from other clubs. Manager Unai Emery may consider selling him for a substantial fee, allowing for a fresh start with a new striker, especially given Tammy Abraham’s inconsistent performance during his loan spell at Villa Park.
